Great Chicken Books

I love reading a good chicken novel. Here are some of my favorites (gold stars mean fabulous, silver stars mean pretty good):

The Hoboken Chicken Emergency
By Daniel Pinkwater
Arthur Bobowicz has to get the Thanksgiving turkey...but there isn't a single one in the whole town! So instead he comes home with a 200 pound chicken who he wants to keep as a pet.

Funny Frank
By Dick King-Smith
Frank is a chicken. He wants to be a duck. How will he do it? You'll just have to read the book, won't you?! The only bad part is the end which is a little bit dumb.

The Fox Busters
By Dick King-Smith
Probably the best chicken story of them all! Rather violent and a bit grim, this is a great book for older readers. The birds in this story are not ordinary fat barnyard fowl, they are intelligent chickens capable of flying and reading!
I love this book.

The Adventures of Gertrude McCluck, Chicken in Charge
By Cyndi Gernhart
There are several Gertrude mysteries. The main character is a Buff Orpington! She solves many mysteries such as: The Missing Eggs, The Great Crate Mystery and The Yellow-Eyed Pond Monster.
The style of these books is similar to Hank The Cowdog but Gertrude is smart, unlike Hank.
